It´s that time of the year again: Spring has sprung, fashion weeks are over, high heels out, fringed boots in! Festival Season has finally begun. While everyone is in Palm Springs for Coachella, THE festival to be at, let me give you the top 3 hottest & coolest european festivals to go to this summer!
1. SZIGET FESTIVAL in Budapest, Hungary.
One of the largest music & cultural festivals in Europe, this is the Europe´s answer to America's Coachella. What originated as a student project, Sziget has now earned a lot of Major Festival Awards. The programs normally start in the afternoon, so there is plenty of time to explore the Old Buda Island, which is only 15 minutes away from the site. Majestic castles, a walk along the Danube, brunch in the city & fashion market in the weekend, the possibilities are endless. Though if you´re planning to camp on site, no worries, there are plenty of things to do. Whether you want to learn Hungarian, learn belly dancing, or just hang with cool people, it´s all there! Sometimes so much to do that you forget that The Killers or Snoop Dogg are playing too!
So if you´re up for not only a grand festival experience, but a cultural one as well, book a holiday to Budapest on the first week of August and buy a weekend ticket! You will not regret!
2. SAN MIGUEL PRIMAVERA SOUND in Barcelona, Spain.
Urban, young and modern. Three words that pop into my head when i think of my last summer in Barcelona. Meeting cool people from London while buying hotdogs, chatting to uber cool girls from Scandinavia while drinking beer and of course chilling with the cool Spanish boys while listening to The XX, not bad for a festival virgin like me.
And because Spain is the hottest summer destination in Europe ever, you will not be needing those rubber boots & rain jackets that you will need in Roskilde. You just need to bring a lot of sunscreen, flip-flops and bikini tops! Nothing else!
3. PEACE & LOVE in Borlange, Sweden.
The three flights i had to take to reach this small, deserted town in Sweden was definitely worth it! The name couldn´t be more appropriate. Everyone was in a happy mood, teenagers singing & dancing on the streets, walking in giant bubbles or just reading a book while waiting for the next act to start. Not to mention the overflow of scandinavian beauty all around. There´s really not much to do in the city (except grabbing coffee & swedish treats in the Peace & Love Cafe or eating sushi for dinner), camping with friends is the best option. Depeche Mode is following Rihanna as the biggest act this year, a reason enough to visit this festival!!
